Rackspace
Technology Innovation Honored with InfoWorld 100 Award;
Rackspace Network Security Recognized as Outstanding
Example of Enterprise Innovation [12th November
2003]
SAN ANTONIO, Nov 12, 2003 (BUSINESS
WIRE) -- Rackspace Managed Hosting, the leading managed
hosting provider, today announced it was named a winner
of the InfoWorld 100. Every year, InfoWorld names 100
companies that have made the best use of technology
to enhance their business -- projects that use new and
emerging technologies to present smart, innovative ways
to meet business and technical objectives. Rackspace
was honored by InfoWorld Magazine for the development
of a sophisticated network security system that helps
identify and mitigate the effects of Distributed Denial
of Service (DDoS) attacks.
Rackspace is the first hosting provider
to offer a DDoS protection solution. PrevenTier is a
three-tiered combination of Rackspace's own patented,
proprietary technologies and commercially available
solutions from Arbor Networks and Riverhead Networks.
The combination works to quickly and accurately locate
suspect traffic at the advent of an attack and sanitize
it without disrupting the free flow of legitimate network
traffic, while dramatically shortening detection and
resolution times.
"The InfoWorld 100 recognizes companies
like Rackspace Managed Hosting that made the best use
of technology to enhance their businesses," stated
Steve Fox, editor-in-chief of InfoWorld. "Rackspace
built an innovative network security program to fight
against distributed denial of service attacks in order
to meet critical technical and business objectives."
"It is through our IT leadership
and our PrevenTier network security solution that we
can guarantee 100 percent network availability to our
customers," said Paul Froutan, vice president of
engineering, Rackspace Managed Hosting. "The InfoWorld
100 Award validates Rackspace's commitment to the development
of innovative processes and technologies to better serve
our customers."
Entries were judged on innovation and
project complexity. Judges looked at what cutting-edge
technologies were used and the stumbling blocks that
were overcome to achieve to success. Also considered
were integration issues and how project leaders worked
with users and other business units. A full list of
