Spam Finally Meets Its Match: Starfield Technologies Launches Spam Xploder™ [19th August 2003]

Advanced spam filter uses intelligent Bayesian technology to stop spam before it
strikes users’ mailboxes, now available with personalized e-mail packages

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 19, 2003 – Starfield Technologies, Inc., sister company of leading domain registrar GoDaddy.com, today announced Spam Xploder™, intelligent spam filtering technology and the latest edition to its lineup of software services for consumers and businesses. Starfield also announced spamfilter.com as a one-stop resource for product information and Spam Xploder packaged solutions.

Using intelligent, Bayesian filtering technology, Spam Xploder comes with predefined
analysis rules to intercept spam at the server level before reaching a user’s mailbox. The server-side filter works in conjunction with client-side management tools for Outlook and Outlook Express that enable users to “train” Spam Xploder by submitting e-mail messages for spam analysis. This allows Spam Xploder to gradually learn to define and detect “spam” according to an individual user’s preferences.

“Out of the gate, Spam Xploder is a powerful weapon in the war against spam,” said Bob Parsons, president and founder of GoDaddy.com. “When the user trains it, Spam Xploder becomes an incredibly effective tool, intercepting spam before it corrupts your mailbox with invasive, annoying and often times obscene messages.”

Spam Xploder works with several e-mail programs, including Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express and Web-Based Email, Starfield’s Internet-based mail client. Customers with Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, or any IMAP- or POP3-based account can retrieve and filter their mail via Starfield’s Web-Based Email or the Spam Xploder Management Client.

Spam Xploder is available free with all email accounts provided by GoDaddy.com and
sister company Wild West Domains. To get Spam Xploder protection for a mailbox, users must register, transfer or already have a domain name registered with GoDaddy.com or a Wild West Domains’ reseller. For package details and answers to Frequently Asked Questions, visit www.spamfilter.com.

It is estimated that the average U.S.-based office worker must sift through up to 100 pieces of spam, or unsolicited bulk e-mail, everyday. Spam is also a nuisance for individual users, as it is estimated that nearly 50 percent of all e-mail handled by Internet Service Providers is spam. As of the beginning of 2003, several anti-spam bills were introduced in Congress, including the Reduction in Distribution (RID) of Spam Act of 2003.
