Linux and MySQL AB Launch First MySQL Database Appliance
[5th August 2003]
SAN
FRANCISCO, Aug 5, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Pogo Linux
Inc., a Linux hardware vendor, and MySQL AB, developer
of the world's most popular open source database, today
launched the first MySQL(R) database appliance, the
DataWare 2600 Server. The DataWare 2600 is a pre-configured,
fully integrated hardware/software offering optimized
for speed and value. The jointly developed database
appliance is a turnkey solution that combines the Linux
systems expertise of Pogo Linux with the cost savings,
reliability and performance of MySQL's open source database.
Pogo Linux, the first "MySQL Certified Hardware
Partner," will demonstrate the DataWare 2600 at
the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco,
August 5-7, in booth #1259.
"We
are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with
a world class organization such as MySQL to provide
a world class product like the DataWare 2600,"
said Erik Logan, CTO of Pogo Linux. "By combining
the strengths of our two companies, we are able to meet
the ever increasing demands of today's database developers
as they build applications for tomorrow's challenges."
The
DataWare 2600 is exclusively designed by Pogo Linux
engineers and optimized by MySQL AB's database developers.
It provides IT managers and developers an open source
option for developing systems where throughput and performance
are critical, such as for Web-hosting and at financial
institutions. Because it is based on open source technologies,
it will be available at a dramatically lower cost than
proprietary database alternatives.
Anchored
by two Intel Xeon processors and a RAID Level 10 SCSI-disk
array platform, the DataWare 2600 comes pre-loaded with
the MySQL Pro database versions 4.0 and 4.1 on the latest
stable Linux kernel. MySQL AB has optimized the MySQL
code to provide enterprise level features, such as transactional
InnoDB support, as well as certification to ensure ACID
compliance. Beyond the inclusion of exclusive partner
software and binaries, Pogo Linux has optimized every
piece of hardware in the DataWare 2600 for speed and
performance. This system has been tuned for the highest
possible performance to enable developers to deliver
powerful and robust MySQL databases in Linux.
The
DataWare 2600 includes two years of hardware support
by Pogo Linux and a one-year MySQL support package.
The MySQL support will ensure that users have answers
to any issues that may arise as they build their applications
for the MySQL database. Higher level support contracts
can be purchased at additional cost for customers who
may benefit from additional access to MySQL's vast database
expertise.
"The
DataWare 2600 will arrive pre-configured so that after
network deployment, it can start serving customer Web
sites and databases in under an hour," said David
Axmark, MySQL AB co-founder. "Pogo Linux has built
it with premium parts for a solution that is not only
low-cost, but very high quality -- a rare combination
today."
Pricing
and Availability
The
DataWare 2600 appliance is available immediately from
Pogo Linux and is priced at $8,999 for a standard configuration.
Additional hardware and support upgrades are available.
