Marks Ten Years of Hosting with Introduction of Enterprise
Hosting [16th April 2003]
LAUREL,
Md., Apr 16, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/
-- Digex, Incorporated (OTC Bulletin Board: DIGX) announced
today that it is launching Enterprise Hosting, a suite
of advanced hosting services and capabilities designed
to help companies more effectively deploy enterprise
applications and Web services over the Internet. Enterprise
Hosting leverages the company's ten years of experience
providing comprehensive managed hosting services for
organizations worldwide.
"Enterprise
Hosting represents an important shift for Digex and
our industry," said George Kerns, President and
CEO of Digex. "During the last ten years, Digex
pioneered managed Web and application hosting and proved
that we can deploy the most secure, scalable, high-performing
Web sites on the Internet. Today, our customers are
asking us to help them deploy Web-enabled front- and
back-office applications with security and availability
on par with their on-line commerce efforts. With the
introduction of Enterprise Hosting, we are combining
our operational expertise with new services to meet
the complex needs of enterprise computing."
Digex
Enterprise Hosting includes the following new services,
capabilities and features:
*
Digex Managed Services for Enterprise Software -- Digex
is unveiling today its managed services for two leading
enterprise software packages: Siebel 7 and PeopleSoft
8. Digex's Siebel and PeopleSoft managed services include
application specific automated process monitors, an
array of pre- and post-production services, and advanced
service levels specifically designed to improve the
security and reliability of these applications when
they are deployed on the Internet. Digex expects to
launch managed services for additional enterprise software
packages over the next 90 days.
*
Digex AppSpect(SM) -- Application Security Inspection
Service -- Digex
AppSpect(SM) is a new network-based security service
that searches for application-layer vulnerabilities.
Digex AppSpect(SM) scans applications using browser-based
clients against the ten most common security vulnerabilities
including cookie poisoning, cross-site scripting and
forceful browsing. The AppSpect service includes consultation
from Digex security experts including recommendations
for improving application security.
"Millions
of dollars in revenue depend on our online sales and
Internet operations -- we cannot afford significant
disruptions or security breaches," said Paul Fusco,
senior vice president and CIO, J.Crew. "Digex's
AppSpect provided a review of our site design and implementation.
It disclosed valuable information on where to tighten
up security concerns, helping us reduce our risk."
*
Digex LAN-Extender(SM) Solution -- Digex LAN-Extender(SM)
solution securely connects private corporate data centers
with Digex SmartCenter(R) Data Centers. By implementing
Digex LAN-Extender(SM), clients can ease management
of distributed systems by employing a Digex managed
cross-center virtual-LAN. The virtual-LAN can be deployed
on top of a Digex managed private IP, frame relay or
VPN connection. Once the virtual-LAN is established,
Digex can arrange a trusted directory relationship enabling
a common data source and innovative single-sign on
capabilities between a customer's data centers and Digex
SmartCenters(R).
*
Enhanced Coordination with Leading System Integrators
-- A key component to Digex's Enterprise Hosting strategy
is to ensure tight coordination with leading global
and regional system integrators, Internet integrators
and value-added resellers. Digex is teaming with leading
systems integrators such as BearingPoint, one of the
world's largest business consulting, systems integration
and managed services firms, to deliver complete end-to-end
solutions for customers.
"The
delivery of quality, robust managed services is an important
strategic direction for BearingPoint," says Brian
Snarzyk, Senior Vice President, BearingPoint, Inc. "Our
relationship with Digex is one of the key ways we deliver
many of these services to our clients."
*
Flexible Enterprise Service Level Agreements -- From
99.5% single-server
configuration service level commitment to 100% fully-redundant
solution service level, Digex will design solutions
and maintain its commitments to the service levels necessary
for a customer's business.
"Digex is truly an industry pioneer, developing
early a long-term vision for a hosted world," remarked
Vinton Cerf, Digex board member, co-designer of TCP/IP
and the Internet's architecture, and chairman of the
Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.
"When I look to the future of Enterprise Hosting,
major drivers such as hosting net-native business applications,
Web Services, and voice portals highlight real opportunity
for Digex and the industry long-term."
Tier
1 Research forecasts complex managed hosting to grow
from $3.2 billion in 2002 to $4.7 billion in 2005. "Digex's
sophisticated capabilities and Enterprise Hosting focus
reside at the heart of the growth opportunity,"
said Andrew Schroepfer, president and founder of Internet
infrastructure research firm Tier 1 Research. "In
partnership with several systems integrators and large
resellers, Digex is positioned to retain the leadership
position established in the past decade."
