development, on the eve of the election released its
first presidential poll results with uncanny accuracy,
predicting Bush's victory.

Faulkner, CEO of C I Host, quipped, "Early on we
were worried about margin of error, as we quickly distributed
a questionnaire among our 210,000 clients. With the
pinpoint accuracy of our prediction, I think now we
can safely say our margin of error was 'zero.' We will
do more of this."

I Host analyzed responses from more than 27,000 clients
- a survey sample larger than many of the professional
polling institutions. Forty-nine percent of C I Host's
respondents - primarily small- to medium-sized businesses
- awarded incumbent George W. Bush the victory. Forty-five
percent voted for John Kerry. (According to CNN, The
Washington Post and The New York Times, President Bush
was re-elected by a margin of 51-48.)
"It
appears in our business poll Ralph Nader and Michael
Badnarik made more of a showing than in the popular
vote," Faulkner said. "One can build a case
that may be indicative of the entrepreneurial spirit
of our clients."
The
2004 election set numerous records and historical achievements,
including the most voter participation since 1968, with
120 million participants, and the first Republican repeat
since Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Faulkner
credited the combination of the Internet and C I Host's
vast "captive audience" for the ability to
create an expedient, accurate and credible survey. The
hosting firm plans to utilize this strength more, launching
periodic polls ranging from politics to pop culture.
