C
I Host Given Clean Slate By Worldwide Spam Monitoring
Organization Texas' Top Hosting Company Absent From
Internet Blacklist [March 2, 2004]
FORT WORTH, TX (March 2, 2004) - C I
Host today announced that Spamhaus --
revered as one of the world's most authoritative and
unimpeachable Internet "watchdog" groups --
has given the Texas company the honor of not making
"the A list." C I Host is the only tier-1
web hosting company not on the Spamhaus "Blacklist."
Christopher
Faulkner, CEO of C I Host, said, "Most hosting
companies are first presumed guilty and furthermore
many are never proven innocent. But, after thorough
investigation, Spamhaus concluded that C I Host doesn't
belong on the blacklist."
Increasingly,
spam - unwanted and unsolicited electronic mail -- has
come to the forefront as some marketers abuse the instantaneous,
inexpensive and direct contact afforded by the medium.
Industry experts warn that without regulation, spam
can and will cripple the flow of legitimate communications
via the Internet. Currently, it is estimated that 50
percent of all e-mail can be classified as spam.
C
I Host continually maintains and upgrades a variety
of safeguards to detect and eradicate spam that potentially
could originate from it's 200,000 clients in 180 countries.
"We
have senior technicians easily devoting twenty percent
of their time watching for the telltale signs, around
the clock," Faulkner said. "If the signs are
evident, we issue a stern warning. If the activity continues,
we document the problem and shut them down."
Faulkner
estimates that the anti-spam detective work is 70 percent
prevention and perhaps 30 percent forensic or after
the fact.
The
Spamhaus Block List is a DNS-based database of IP addresses
of verified spam sources (including spammers, spam gangs
and spam support services), supplied as a free service
to help email administrators better manage incoming
email streams. The SBL can be queried in realtime by
mail systems throughout the Internet, allowing email
administrators to identify or block incoming connections
from IP addresses involved in the sending of Unsolicited
Bulk Email.
The
SBL database is updated 24/7 by a dedicated international
team (US, UK, NL, I, JP, AR), is broadcast by 16 independent
SBL zone mirrors based in Belgium, Denmark, Germany,
Greece, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, South Africa, UK
and USA, and supplies direct hourly feeds to many of
the Internet's major service providers, corporations,
universities, government and military networks.
