Global Web Company Moves to 365 Main's Data
Center in Bay Area After Major Reno Fire [July
19, 2004]
SAN
FRANCISCO, Jul 19, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- 365 Main,
the Bay Area's safest, most secure and reliable critical
facility, today announced that Colossus, a substantial
Web hosting company serving nearly 71,000 domains with
customers in Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Central
America, Europe, North America, and South America moved
into 365 Main's critical facility after a transformer
explosion and flaming oil heavily damaged their Reno
office and rocked downtown Reno businesses last year.
In
addition to its downtown San Francisco location, beginning
in 1999, 365 Main underwent a $130 million renovation
to transform its critical facility into a secure, state-of-the-art,
and seismically base-isolated data center. 365 Main
is equipped with state of the art pre-action laser-based
and particulate sampling VEDSA (Very Early Smoke Detection
Alarms) systems to provide smoke and fire detection
to isolate and extinguish incidents before they begin.
"We
scoured the country looking for a cost-effective colocation
facility, before we found 365 Main," Eric Klien,
President, Colossus Web Hosting Services. "We found
northern California facilities to be the best deal,
probably due to the aftermath of the dot com implosion.
365 Main's facility was the most rugged structure we
found in northern California and since it was reasonably
priced, we decided to relocate our operations to their
building."
365
Main's building has been granted "Essential Facility"
status, assuring that its facility will remain operational
and safe during and after a major earthquake, fire or
other disaster, and that tenants will be allowed on-site
without the city inspection required of non-essential
structures to enable continuous business activity.
"We
are happy Colossus made the decision to choose us as
the place to relocate their core business structure,"
Says Kevin Shanahan, Vice President for 365 Main. "With
our world class facility and solid, safe and reliable
infrastructure, Colossus can focus on growing their
business now instead of worrying about protecting it
against future disasters."
In
addition, 365 Main also meets and surpasses the highest
possible building standards set by the Uniform Building
Code (UBC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA). 365 Main is built to such a high safety standard
that it is the only data center pre-qualified for an
expedited disaster recovery process by the City and
County of San Francisco's Building Occupancy Resumption
Program and was the only data center chosen by California
Department of Mines and Geology for their study of seismic
integrity.
