MyDoom
meets dead-end at Modwest [January 27th, 2004]
Modwest, Inc. (www.modwest.com), a provider
of shared and managed hosting solutions, announced today
that despite the rapid proliferation of the MyDoom/Novarg
worm, Modwest customer mailboxes continue to be virus-free.
The new worm, rated as “high risk”
by Network Associates, Symantec, and other anti-virus
vendors, mass-mails itself to all addresses found on
infected computers using its own SMTP engine. To become
infected, the recipient must open the accompanying attachment.
“We’re filtering nearly
two thousand per hour, making the MyDoom/Novarg worm
one of the hardest-hitting worms that we’ve seen.
The system is handling the increased load, and no viruses
or worms are getting through,” said Modwest co-founder
and VP John Masterson.
Modwest includes virus filtering for
free with all web hosting accounts, and it is available
as an option to managed server accounts. Modwest hosts
thousands of business email accounts for customers in
49 countries, and processes millions of messages a day.
