Mailblocks Acquires EmailAccount.com [January 8, 2004]

LOS ALTOS, CALIFORNIA, and CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, LAS VEGAS—January 8, 2004—Mailblocks, Inc. today announced it has acquired the assets of EmailAccount.com, a provider of free and premium Web-based email accounts to 50,000 users. While terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, Mailblocks plans to migrate EmailAccount.com customers to its services during the first quarter of 2004.

Mailblocks provides a new class of email service that delivers a powerful combination of features and capabilities to help consumers manage, protect and consolidate their email. The hallmark of Mailblocks' service is its patented Challenge/Response 2.0 anti-spam technology, which completely eliminates spam from consumers' inboxes while allowing passage of legitimate email. The purchase also coincides with Mailblocks' launch of a new free version of its acclaimed Web-based email service and the addition of a number of new features for both its free and premium services. “We are delighted to welcome EmailAccount.com users to a new home and pleased to provide them access to Mailblocks' superior spam-free consumer email platform,” said Mailblocks' Vice President of Sales and Marketing Susan Bratton. “Our goal is to make their migration to Mailblocks as transparent as possible, without any interruption of service and backed by network operations and engineering.”

The purchase of EmailAccount.com marks Mailblocks' second acquisition. In October, Mailblocks acquired the customer base of Cleanster, Inc., another anti-spam service.

Mailblocks' new free service features storage comparable to EmailAccount.com, with 5MB of storage. In addition, Mailblocks' free service includes its highly effective and patented anti-spam Challenge/Response 2.0 technology and most of the management capabilities of Mailblocks' premium accounts.

Mailblocks' Premium Service provides EmailAccount.com's premium customers with greater storage, an increased number of Rules and Trackers and provides advanced email handling capabilities at more affordable rates. Premium customers also can manage up to ten existing email accounts through the Mailblocks Inbox and access Mailblocks through popular email programs like Microsoft Outlook Express and Eudora. Its Basic Service provides 15MB of storage for the low price of $9.95 per year. Additionally, its Premium Service features 100MB of storage, aggressively priced at $24.95 per year. All services also offer attachment allowances of 6MB, enabling users to send and store large files. New subscribers can obtain the free or enhanced Mailblocks services at www.mailblocks.com. Additionally, a free 30-day trial of the service is available at http://freetrial.mailblocks.com.
