Mailblocks Previews New Information Assistant at DEMO 2004 [February 16, 2004]

DEMO 2004, PHOENIX—February 16, 2004—Mailblocks, Inc. tomorrow will demonstrate Maxwell (code name), a ground-breaking new information assistant as part of its Web-based email service. Maxwell automates two key processes common to email: calendaring and contact management. These new capabilities were shown publicly for the first time today at the prestigious DEMO 2004 conference for emerging technologies and new products, where Mailblocks took the wraps off of the new calendar product being incorporated into its email service in the next product release. Mailblocks plans to make Maxwell available to its users in the second half of 2004.

Employing rules-based intelligence, Maxwell is designed to actively search incoming email to “sniff out” meeting and contact information. Maxwell automatically flags pertinent information about meeting requests, dates and times, and then tentatively adds it to the user's calendar, along with links to the associated email. Similarly, Maxwell detects new or outdated contact information not already present in the user's Web-based address book. Maxwell then offers a one-click ability to add the complete contact information to the address book. With Maxwell, Mailblocks is expanding the concept of the “managed inbox” to encompass a consolidated strategy for contact and calendar management.

Maxwell is the latest in ongoing innovations from Mailblocks to help consumers more effectively manage, protect, and consolidate their email and other related communications. Hallmarks of the Mailblocks service are the consolidation and management of existing Yahoo! Mail, AOL, MSN, Hotmail and POP3 accounts into one universal inbox; the capability to send and receive mail from a user's custom domain name; and email access via a super-fast, application-like Web interface or through desktop email applications. Mailblocks also offers large storage and attachment allowances at the best pricing for consumers, as well as a selection of twenty email domains, and their keystone capability—100% elimination of spam with no false positives via Challenge/Response 2.0.

“Mailblocks is the first Web-based email service to truly automate the linkage of email to calendar and address book. More significantly, with Maxwell we are adding intelligence to ongoing communications processes and enabling email to become the true center for communications and information management for everyday people” said Rich Landsman, Mailblocks' acting CEO and VP of Engineering. “Think of Maxwell as an information assistant who works behind the scenes to take action on the user's behalf to make life easier by helping to manage schedules and keep contact information updated automatically. This innovation in information management is indicative of Mailblocks' ongoing commitment to providing the best consumer email service.”

“Maxwell exemplifies a new class of information management tools. The concept of an assistant automatically searching incoming email to find prospective appointments and contacts is a promising development. Maxwell becomes the first action-oriented email product,” noted DEMO producer Chris Shipley.

Mailblocks 2.0 was launched at CES January 8, 2004 with a host of new email features including wizards, rules, full contact support, and a selection of 20 domain addresses. Mailblocks' Basic Service provides 15MB of storage for the low price of $9.95 per year. Its Premium Service features 100MB of storage and is aggressively priced at $24.95 per year. Mailblocks' new free service features 5MB of storage. All services also offer attachment allowances of 6MB, enabling users to send and store large files.
